New rural house, Buckinghamshire –Matodesign were asked to assist clients seeking to build a new dwelling on land occupied by some dis-used agricultural barns outside the designated village envelope. Two similar previous applications had been refused and dismissed at appeal. A dwelling was designed with a detached garage mimicking the scale, character and appearance of the existing agricultural buildings on the site. The Council refused the application on the ground that it was development in open countryside. At appeal the Inspector accepted that the proposal had no harmful impacts and that it would deliver a windfall rural dwelling where there was an identified current shortfall in supply. The appeal was allowed with conditions.
